Garbelotto quits Tigers

Coach Tony Garbelotto has left Mersey Tigers after four seasons in charge.

Garbelotto, 43, was out of contract with the Liverpool-based club and will now move to Germany to coach Pro A team Heidelberg.

The Tigers endured a difficult 2011-12 season, finishing outside the play-offs, just a year after they won a treble of titles – the BBL Trophy, BBL Championship and BBL play-offs.

In fact, last season was the only year with the Tigers that Garbelotto didn’t collect any silverware, having won the BBL Cup in 2008/09 and the play-offs in 2009/10.

It is likely to be another turbulent summer for Mersey, who have been hit with financial difficulties for the past 18 months.
